Hearth & Home Company remodels the Low row, leaving 180 Bleecker as the only house with its original form

Around 1920-21 the Hearth & Home Company simplified the lintels and sills of the eight identical rowhouses at 172 to 186 Bleecker Street in keeping with the Colonial Revival style, and lowered the ground floors to street level in 1922. Several houses in the row later lost its peaked roof for a full fifth story. A 1924 plan to do that at 180 and 182 was apparently never carried out, so 180 still has its original peaked, dormered roof.

“…no. 180 is the only house of the original row to have retained its original form, for more than 150 years.”
