Terms of use

Effective October 6, 2026

LoreTour is a free, public map of Manhattan’s buildings and the history behind them. By using it, you agree to these terms. They are written to be read, so please read them.

Using LoreTour

Anyone can read the map. Signing in lets you ask the guide, write timelines, post comments and save buildings. Keep your sign-in email secure, and use one account per person. We may suspend accounts that break these terms.

What you post

You keep ownership of what you post. By posting, you give LoreTour permission to host, show, edit for length and format, and share it as part of the site and its features, such as the guide and search, without payment. When you post:

We may edit or remove anything posted on LoreTour.

The record

LoreTour’s entries are short histories written in our own words, each linking to the page it comes from. Historical sources disagree and sometimes err, so check the linked source before relying on an entry. If you spot a mistake, email us.

The guide

The guide’s answers are generated by an AI model working from LoreTour’s record and street map, and they can be wrong. Check details before you rely on them. Walking routes are suggestions: watch for traffic and closures, follow the rules of the road, and only enter buildings that are open to the public. Each account has a daily question limit.

Other people’s content

LoreTour links to and credits other sites, including Wikipedia, Daytonian in Manhattan, Village Preservation, Forgotten New York, Ephemeral New York, The Bowery Boys and the Landmarks Preservation Commission. They aren’t responsible for LoreTour, and linking to them doesn’t mean they endorse it. Building footprints and building data come from NYC Open Data, aerial photographs from New York State, and 3D and satellite imagery from Google, each under its own terms.

Copyright concerns

If you believe something on LoreTour uses your work without permission, email noahlee519@gmail.com with the page and the details, and we’ll review it promptly.

No warranty

LoreTour is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind. To the extent the law allows, LoreTour and the people who run it aren’t liable for any loss or damage that comes from using the site, its entries or the guide.

Changes

We may update these terms. If we do, we’ll change this page and the date at the top; using LoreTour after that means you accept the new terms. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York.
