Louis Meyers of the meat business replaces his own house with a six-story tenement at 184 Franklin Street

In 1885 Louis Meyers, who was in the meat business, had a six-story tenement with a store at street level built on the site of his own home. The architect was Louis Meystre of Hoboken, and the neo-Grec facade is trimmed in pressed metal. In the mid-twentieth century a Western Union Telegraph branch occupied the ground floor, and the floors above are still residential.

“Designed by Hoboken architect Louis Meystre for Louis Meyers, a client involved in the meat business, it was erected in 1885 on the site of Meyers's home.”
