No. 1971 has a rectangular entrance and keystoned lintels in buff brick

No. 1971 is faced in the same buff brick as the rest of its row, with a rectangular entrance and splayed window lintels with prominent keystones. When John Hauser designed the tenement at 65 East Tremont Avenue next door in 1909, he rounded its northeast corner to meet the curved bow of No. 1971. By 1986 the house had aluminum sash and a white cornice.

“The northeast corner of the building Is rounded also, to meet the bow of its Immediate neighbor No. 1971 Morris Avenue.”

No. 1971 belongs to a row of nine houses, Nos. 1971 through 1987, that the Jacobs put up on the west side of Morris Avenue around the middle of 1907 in the fourth of their five building campaigns on the block. Every house in this group is three stories tall and faced in the same buff brick, with a stoop and areaway railing pattern unlike the other rows. The first house of the group to find a buyer was sold on September 30, 1908.

“Nos. 1971 through 1987, the row of nine houses on the west side of Morris (plate 6), were constructed in a fourth campaign about mid-1907…”
