Mason John C. Tucker builds 24 Greenwich Avenue as a two-and-a-half-story house

No. 24 Greenwich Avenue went up in 1835-36 as one of a pair of houses built by John C. Tucker, a mason who lived next door at No. 26. It began only two and a half stories tall and kept its brick front. Its cornice is probably an 1880s addition from when the house was raised to four stories, and plate-glass windows later replaced its original small-paned sash.

“Both Nos. 24 and 26 were erected in 1835-36 by John C. Tucker, a mason, who lived at No. 26.”
