William Ewing builds a Federal house on what was then Amos Street

William Ewing built a two-and-a-half-story house of Flemish-bond red brick at 33 Amos Street in 1832; the street was renamed West 10th Street in 1857. In the 1850s, jeweler Moses L. Lion most likely gave the outdated Federal house its Greek Revival updates. The attic became a full floor, the parlor windows were lengthened, and a side passage to the rear yard was closed in as an extension of the house.
