The Queensboro Corporation put up this brick house in 1927 under building permit NB 2936-1927, which covered the four-house cluster at 34-24, 34-26, 34-28 and 34-30 85th Street. Robert Tappan designed all 32 houses on the facing blockfronts of 84th and 85th streets between 34th and 35th avenues, set out as eight back-to-back clusters of four. Each house got a front garden and its own garage in paired garages at the rear, reached by a shared driveway.

Landmarks report finds 34-30 85th Street and its neighbors remarkably intact

Surveying the block for the 1993 Jackson Heights Historic District report, the Landmarks Preservation Commission found that Robert Tappan's 1927 houses kept nearly all of their original wood sash, six-over-six and eight-over-eight, along with many original paneled and glazed wood doors. Storm windows and doors had been added to many of them. The paired garages behind the houses, with peaked slate roofs, carry on the style of the houses.
