The Renaissance Revival fronts combine brick, limestone and terra cotta with big arches and swags. The firm sold its newly finished stores in early March 1893, and the Real Estate Record & Guide said the district's new buildings were renting fast.

Neckwear makers hand out medals to the employees who helped more than 600 people escape a burning factory
After a January fire destroyed its large Elizabeth Street factory, the neckwear maker Berliner, Strauss & Denzer moved into No. 35 within a month. On February 4 it gathered its staff to give medals to employees credited with helping save more than 600 lives. Among them was elevator boy Samuel Bernstein, who stayed until every woman was brought down, and Solomon Altschuler, who closed the safe holding $40,000. By 1895 the firm employed more than 460 people.
