C.F. McAvoy designs 37-25 87th Street for the Queensboro Corporation's first Jackson Heights row

37-25 87th Street went up in 1924 under new-building permit NB 327-1924, one of five houses in the second of the four clusters that C.F. McAvoy designed for the Queensboro Corporation on the east side of 87th Street between 37th and Roosevelt avenues. The landmarks report calls this twenty-house group the first of the many attached and semi-detached rows that followed in Jackson Heights in the late 1920s. Its red brick, white trim, wood shutters and front gables or shed dormers come largely from the neo-Georgian style.

“Built in 1924 to designs by C.F. McAvoy, this group of twenty houses was the first of many similar groups…”
