No. 37-40 79th Street is one of 46 attached and semi-detached houses, each two and a half stories tall, that the J.H. Kleinman Construction Corp. developed in 1926-27 on the block between 37th and Roosevelt Avenues, back to back on 78th and 79th Streets. Benjamin Dreisler, Jr. drew the plans. The Landmarks Preservation Commission's 1993 Jackson Heights report classes the style as Anglo-American Garden Home.

  2. 1926

Dreisler groups No. 37-40 with five neighbors in a mirror-image cluster

Permit NB 11922-1926 covered No. 37-40 together with Nos. 37-38, 37-42, 37-44, 37-46 and 37-48. Dreisler designed each six-house cluster in an a-b-c-c-b-a sequence, with entrances placed as mirror images and roof profiles alternating, so the cluster reads as one larger building. Neo-Georgian touches include Flemish-bond red brick, fanlight transoms, terra-cotta rosettes and scallop shells, and tiled roofs with gables and shed dormers.
