Lincoln Court rises around three garden courts, with this house in its row along 44th Street

This house is one of the 78 row houses of Lincoln Court, which filled the block between 39th Avenue, 45th Street, Skillman Avenue and 44th Street. Its rows were set around the edge of the block but broken by through-block paths every eight to 14 houses, with varied lengths, setbacks and roofs. Three paired rows enclosed three interior garden courts, and each house also got a private front and back yard.

“The 78 row houses of Lincoln Court cover the block bounded by 39 th Avenue (north), 45 th Street (east), Skillman Avenue (south), and 44th Street (west).”

When the Landmarks Preservation Commission surveyed 39-13 in 2007, it classed the house as Type A, a two-bay design with its entrance on the left. Its windows were aluminum one-over-ones, but the enclosed entry porch and the front door, behind an aluminum storm door, were still historic. A wood picket fence lined the stairs down to the basement entrance, and brick pavers were laid in the areaway.
