39-18 45th Street goes up as a Type A row house in Sunnyside Gardens' Lincoln Court

This house dates from 1926 and belongs to Lincoln Court, one of the garden courts of Sunnyside Gardens. Counting from the south, it is the seventh of nine attached houses on the west side of 45th Street between Barnett and Skillman Avenues, a row that mixes two-story flat-roofed houses with taller ones under attic gables in five separate plans. The Landmarks Preservation Commission's survey classes this one as Type A, the plan that its neighbor at 39-20 mirrors.

When the Sunnyside Gardens Historic District was designated in 2007, this house had paired aluminum casements on the ground floor and one-over-one aluminum sash above. Its porch had been filled in with brick that the Commission judged non-historic, a brick planter bed and wall stood at the basement stairs, and about a third of the front yard was paved. At the back, an awning and sliding doors had been added on the first floor and a window bay projected from the second.

“…brick porch infill is non-historic; window box at porch ... REAR - awning & sliding doors at 1st floor; projecting window bay at 2nd floor…”
