William O'Gorman builds 423 East 139th Street as one house in a 51-house neo-Grec row

No. 423 was finished in 1892 as part of a row of fifty-one single-family rental houses that William O'Gorman and Hermann Stursberg put up down the whole north blockfront of East 139th Street, from Willis to Brook Avenue. O'Gorman drew the plans himself: a 16-foot-8-inch-wide Philadelphia brick front with incised stone trim, a stone stoop with cast-iron railings and a bracketed metal cornice. Stursberg's realty company kept No. 423 until it sold the house in the mid-1930s.

“…the company sold one other (No. 423) in the mid-1930s…”
