45-09 Skillman Avenue stands near the middle of Washington Court's eight-house Skillman row

Washington Court's row along Skillman Avenue, dated 1926, mixes two-story flat-roofed houses and gabled houses with attics in three designs; 45-09 is the fourth of the eight. Elliptical wood panels top the paired front doors. Decorative brickwork includes a soldier course above the foundation, projecting header sills and string courses, and pilasters. A basement door is tucked beneath each stoop or porch.

“The center buildings have slate shingled, eaves front, pitched roofs ... elliptical wood panels above the paired entries…”

When the Landmarks Preservation Commission recorded each Sunnyside house in 2007, 45-09 Skillman Avenue had a brick enclosure with sliding windows across its front, entered from the side. Grilles covered the first- and second-floor windows, a red awning hung at the second floor, and a flagpole stood in the front yard. At the back, which never had a porch, there was a door under a red metal awning, two satellite dishes and a small aluminum-clad dormer on the roof.
