Nos. 47, 49 and 51 Barrow Street went up in 1826, the first of seven late Federal houses on the block; four more followed in 1828. Charles Oakley, the lawyer and developer who had bought the eastern half of the block the year before, was taxed for Nos. 45, 47 and 49. All of the houses found tenants right away. The street, then called Reason Street, was renamed Barrow in 1828.
“…the three dwellings on the right, Nos. 47, 49, and 51 in 1826... Charles Oakley, who was taxed for Nos. 45, 47, and 49; they found tenants immediately.”
