Marine insurance executive Lewis Gregory makes No. 47 Greenwich Avenue his home
The west side of this block was laid out in lots in 1847 by Richards and Tayler, who sold most of them to men in the building trades. Reuben Wood, probably the mason of that name, resold No. 47 almost at once to Lewis Gregory, who served the Marine Insurance Company as vice president. Gregory made the house his home in 1849. The houses in the row were built in 1848-49 as first-class private residences, without stores.
