Paul Stier buys the Debevoise farmland where this house will stand

This block, east of Forest Avenue below Catalpa Avenue, once belonged to a Debevoise family farm reaching across Myrtle Avenue, sold off around 1900 to speculators. In 1906 builder Paul Stier bought a large share of it, between today's 60th Street and Fresh Pond Road, and began building there intensively the next year.

Paul Stier was the original owner of this c. 1909 two-family house, one of a row of 23 designed by Louis Berger & Company under permit NB 1379-1909. It has a buff iron-spot brick front with a full-height rounded bay and a limestone door hood carved with leaf ornament. Its stoop walls were later swapped for metal railings, and the steps were refaced in stone and brick.
