No. 772 went up in 1908 for C. Bull, one of a row of eight single-family houses on Hewitt Place drawn by the Bronx architect Charles S. Clark. When new, all eight houses looked alike, each set back from the sidewalk behind a small garden, with a short stoop rising to a hip-roofed entrance porch.

When the Longwood Historic District was designated on July 8, 1980, the Landmarks Preservation Commission's report found that only two houses in Clark's Hewitt Place row, No. 772 and No. 774, still had the original roofing. Their mansard fronts kept the metal tiles that had been chosen to imitate slate.
