Andrew J. Thomas designs the Queensboro Corporation's second Jackson Heights headquarters
Read more
The Queensboro Corporation put up this two-story building of offices and stores in 1947 as its second headquarters in Jackson Heights; the first was a neo-Tudor building of 1928-29 by Morrell Smith on the southwest corner where 82nd Street crosses 37th Avenue. Andrew J. Thomas, who had worked for the company for nearly thirty years, designed it as his final Queensboro commission. He gave it a neo-Georgian look, with oculi in its gables, shuttered six-over-six windows and stone doorways under broken, segmental and arched heads. The brick has since been painted and the upper shutters on the avenue removed.
