In 1893 the architect Richard R. Davis designed two five-story apartment houses at 80 and 82 Charles Street for Elizabeth J. Wellwood. A horizontal band course unified the high first floors of the pair, which had dignified entrances in the Grecian manner with pediments on pilasters. Later alterations covered the fronts in smooth stucco and stripped away detail, and a plain parapet now tops the roofline.
