Angular bays and round-arched upper windows mark the 861-863 Macy Place pair

No. 863 is half of a mirror-image double house, two stories over a basement, with angular bays flanking the paired stoops. The Roman brick front has limestone trim on its first two floors and brownstone at the basement, and the second-floor windows are round-arched under drip moldings with scrolled, fluted keystones. By 1983 the trim and brownstone stoops had been painted and the basement door grille of No. 863 was gone.

On February 8, 1983, the Landmarks Preservation Commission designated the north side of Macy Place, with part of Hewitt Place, as an extension of the Longwood Historic District created in 1980. At the April 1982 hearing two people spoke for the extension and nobody spoke against it, and Assemblyman Armando Montano sent a letter of support.
