While Henry Suydam built four of the houses in this row as an investor, No. 9 was put up in 1837-38 by a professional builder, I. Greene Pearson. The house kept its original wrought-iron areaway railing, and its window lintels are flat and flush, unlike the small cornices over the windows of Nos. 3, 5 and 13. Its stoop was later replaced by a basement entrance.

“No. 9 was erected in 1837-38 by the builder, I. Greene Pearson.”
