In 1903 the architect George F. Pelham designed The Alpha at 12-14 Charles Street for the owner Henry Passman. It is yellow brick in an Italian Renaissance manner, with a rusticated stone ground floor, a porch on columns and a large sheet-metal cornice on console brackets. It occupies the site of two more of Patrick Cogan's 1845 houses.
