Joseph Buttenweiser has George Pelham build a five-story Queen Anne tenement at 128 MacDougal Street

Architect George F. Pelham designed the five-story brick tenement for Joseph Buttenweiser in 1893, together with its near-twin at No. 126, under a single building application. The brick front carries brownstone and terra-cotta ornament, including round-arched lintels with mask keystones and foliate bands. The Landmarks Preservation Commission classes it as an old-law tenement.

Pommes Frites reopens at 128 MacDougal Street after a gas explosion destroys its East Village home

Suzanne Levinson opened the Belgian-style fry shop in January 1997 at 123 Second Avenue. On March 26, 2015, that building collapsed after a natural gas explosion; no one at the shop was seriously hurt, though an employee and a customer of a nearby restaurant died. The business relocated to 128 MacDougal Street and reopened on May 23, 2016. It sells only fries, in paper cones, with a choice of sauces.
