    G. X. Mathews finishes his 1908 Gates Avenue row with 2059

Number 2059, on lot 39 of tax block 3485, is the last of eight flats from 2045 to 2059 Gates Avenue that developer G. X. Mathews filed for in 1908 under NB 2486-08. Louis Berger and Company designed the row in the Renaissance Revival style. Like the rest of the row, it has a buff brick front with carved limestone lintels.

The front of 2059 ends in a projecting bay, and its basement has a bluestone band course and sills. In 2009 it kept off-white painted paired doors, areaway ironwork and a gray cornice with swags, while a security camera, conduit and basement grilles had been added. The gray-stuccoed rear wall had a sliding window in one second-floor bay, and an antenna and two flue pipes stood on the roof.

“Five bay, buff-colored brick facade with projecting last bay ... antenna and two flue pipes at roof.”
