No. 21-51 is the last of six simplified Italianate brick houses, Nos. 21-41 through 21-51, that the developers Root & Rust built during the 1870s. Each stands three stories above a basement on a lot 16 feet wide, giving the windows a vertical cast, with plain lintels and sills and a bracketed roof cornice like those of Nos. 21-09 to 21-17. In designating the Hunters Point Historic District in 1968, the Landmarks Preservation Commission noted that this house had kept its stoop and its cast-iron handrails.

“Nos. 21-41, 21-49 and 21-51 retain their stoops and have attractive cast iron handrails.”
