Two Old Law tenements are built at 313 and 315 Bowery

Architect J. Correja designs two Old Law tenements at 313 and 315 Bowery for owner Jacob Weeks in 1878. They stand as separate buildings until 1934, when they are joined into a single lodging house.

  2. 1934

The tenements are combined into the Palace Bar & Hotel flophouse

Architects Scacchetti & Siegel remove the top two floors of each tenement and take out the interior walls between them. The result is a four-story, four-bay lodging house behind a yellow-brick Art Deco facade. It becomes the Palace Bar & Hotel, a Bowery flophouse that houses about 500 poor men.

The club instead becomes a center of punk and new wave, hosting early shows by the Ramones, Television, Blondie, Talking Heads and the Patti Smith Group. It closes on October 15, 2006, with a final show by Patti Smith.
