Under permit NB 6080-1921, filed together with No. 34-27, the Jackson Heights Apartment Corp. put up this building as part of Elm Court, built in 1921-22 to designs by George H. Wells. The complex runs through the block, with four attached buildings facing 79th Street and four facing 80th Street and a wide common garden between their backs. The commission described it as one of the characteristic garden apartment projects of Jackson Heights.

Elm Court's attached buildings depart from Linden Court's semi-detached plan

Elm Court was one of five garden apartment groups George H. Wells designed after Andrew J. Thomas's Linden Court set the block-plan model. Where Linden Court's buildings were semi-detached, Wells made his identical and attached, so they form continuous blockfronts. And unlike Hampton, Hawthorne and Cambridge Courts, which frame full blocks, Elm Court occupies a smaller assemblage of lots.

“Elm and Laburnum occupy smaller assemblages and do not define full blocks.”
