34-37 80th Street goes up as one of the Chateau's five- and six-story buildings

Permit NB 556-1922 covered this building, part of the Queensboro Corporation's Chateau. Each blockfront of six buildings runs in an A-B-C-C-B-A pattern: the end buildings combine a five-story center with a six-story wing and a corner tower, the B buildings are symmetrical five-story blocks with flush fronts, and the two C buildings in the middle mirror each other with slightly projecting sections.

The Chateau's entrances are stone portals flanked by small decorative columns and topped by hoods, holding glass doors behind ornamental iron grilles in segmental-arched openings. When the commission surveyed the complex for the 1993 district report, every original door was still in place, as were nearly all of the four-over-four wood windows and most of the multi-pane casements in the corner towers.

“The segmentally-arched door openings contain glass doors with decorative iron grilles. All of the original doors survive…”
