This five-story-and-basement walk-up is one of four matching brick buildings, filed under a single new-building permit (NB 847-1916), that make up the Plymouth Apartments on the west side of 82nd Street. The developer was the Jackson Heights Apt. Corp. and the architect George H. Wells, who placed the group near the streetcar stop at 82nd Street and Northern Boulevard, as he had his earlier apartment groups.

The Plymouth closely resembles a London apartment house at 12 Hyde Park Place

The Landmarks Preservation Commission found that the Plymouth Apartments closely resemble 12 Hyde Park Place in London, a six-story building of 1902-03 by Frank T. Verity. Both share a modified pavilion plan, big windows, rusticated banding and a cornice capped by a parapet, and the Plymouth's projecting central entry porch echoes the London one. Such porches went on to become a signature of Wells's later Jackson Heights buildings.
