Vincenzo Buscemi builds a six-story flats building on the former church corner

Architect J. C. Cocker designed 35-37 Bedford Street in 1906 as the second of a pair of Renaissance Revival flats buildings, and Vincenzo Buscemi built it in 1907. The corner building at 31-33 was split off and built under its own permit at the same time. The site had belonged to the Berean Baptist Church, which left for Washington Square in 1892, and as part of a wider wave of replacement the lot gained flats for immigrant and working-class tenants.

“…designed as one of a pair of flats buildings in 1906 by architect J. C. Cocker and constructed for Vincenzo Buscemi in 1907…”
