William H. Birkmire, an architect who also held title to the property together with H.L. Moxley, put up this fireproof office building in 1898-99. It has a narrow 28-foot front on Broadway but runs 175 feet along Walker Street to Cortlandt Alley, faced in brick with limestone and terra cotta in the Renaissance Revival manner. Charles A. Gould bought it soon after completion and kept it until 1927.

This Renaissance Revival tower on Walker Street is among his Tribeca designs.
