A congregation of Lutherans of German birth or descent, the Second St. Peter's German Evangelical Lutheran Church, moved here from 374 East 141st Street. Brooklyn architect Louis A. Allmendinger designed the church in 1911 after an earlier scheme by the Bronx firm Schaefer & Jaeger had been approved and then withdrawn; its parsonage followed next door at No. 437 in 1912. Allmendinger later designed the Russian Orthodox Cathedral of the Transfiguration on North 12th Street in Brooklyn.

Allmendinger gives the small church a neo-Gothic front and a crenelated tower
The one-story church with a basement is a freestanding gray brick building on a stone base, with terra-cotta trim, a pitched slate roof and copper cornices. Its central bell tower is crenelated and banded in terra cotta, though the slender spires that once crowned it have been taken down. A low stoop leads to a pointed-arch doorway with trefoil and quatrefoil ornament and wooden doors hung on metal strap hinges, beneath a stained-glass Gothic window.
