Mason Peter R. Christie likely builds and lives in the Italianate house at 57 Christopher Street

No. 57 was one of three Italianate houses put up in 1853 at Nos. 55, 57 and 59, assessed to John Kemp, Peter R. Christie and Gilbert J. Bogart. Christie, a mason, and Bogart, a carpenter, both worked in the building trades, and Christie alone of the three owners lived in his house, so the landmarks report concludes the two men probably built the row themselves. Later changes replaced the stoop at No. 57 with a basement entrance.

“Christie was the only one of the three who actually lived in his house, it is likely that he and Bogart were the builders of the three houses.”
