Builder Jacob Rodler put up this three-story store and flats building under permit NB 2901-1911, with Louis Allmendinger as architect. Rodler built it at the same time as 917 Onderdonk Avenue and nine flats buildings numbered 921 to 937, but filed a separate application for it. Although its address is on Onderdonk Avenue, the main entrance opens onto 70th Avenue. A Sanborn map of 1914 already shows the storefront and a one-story addition on the east side.

Jacob Rodler, a German-born framer turned builder, puts up the Onderdonk Avenue row this corner ends
German-born Jacob Rodler started out in Queens as a framer and, soon after 1900, became a builder of multi-family houses, first in wood and then in masonry. In 1911 he built the row of three-story buildings at 917 to 939 Onderdonk Avenue, designed by Louis Allmendinger, with projecting piers on brackets and pressed-metal cornices with swags. In the 1920s Rodler moved his company out to Hempstead on Long Island.
