Louis Berger & Company designs 59-30 Madison Street, the last house in Eisenhauer's 1907 row

Permit NB 508-1907 covered this two-story-and-basement brick row house, designed by Louis Berger & Company for original owner John Eisenhauer in the Renaissance Revival style. Stone bands run across the front and serve as sills under flat arched lintels, and a decorated frieze and bracketed, denticulated cornice crown the facade. The wood-and-glass double door with transom may be historic, but the stoop has been replaced and the bracketed stone lintel over the door removed.

  2. 1907

59-30 Madison Street is built in 1907 as part of one of Central Ridgewood's early brick rows

The district's designation report lists John Eisenhauer's 1907 row at 59-22 to 59-30 Madison Street, ending with this house, among the early brick rows built on the former Meyerrose farm. Louis Berger & Company designed it and the other rows of that year by Kluepfel, Ignatz Martin and Geier & Frey. They resemble but simplify the firm's 1906 rows for Martin: every window lintel and stone band is flat, smooth and flush.

    “…include 59-22 to 59-30 Madison Street (1907; John Eisenhauer, builder), 59-34 to 59-48 Madison Street (1907; Anton Kluepfel, builder)…”
