In 1908 the Ridgewood developer August Bauer built the row running from 60-55 to 60-95 71st Avenue, all of it planned by Louis Berger & Company. Born in Bavaria in 1860, Bauer emigrated in 1882 and made Ridgewood his home from 1893. Trained as a carpenter, he put up several hundred houses around the turn of the century, first wood-frame rows and then some of the neighborhood's earliest brick ones.

    “Bauer built the row at 60-55 to 60-95 71st Avenue (1908) and 60-94 and 60-96 70th Avenue (1908), all designed by Berger…”

Filed as new building 2907 of 1908, the house is a three-story flats building over a basement, four bays wide with three of the bays in a curved projection. It has a brownstone water table, rough-faced brick bands and sill panels, and a bracketed metal cornice with swags and egg-and-dart moldings. The stoop and the cast-iron areaway posts are original; the windows are replacements and the wall lamp is a later addition.
