The nineteen-story Cezanne replaces seven houses on Hudson Street

Built in 1962-64, The Cezanne rises nineteen stories on a site where seven houses once faced Hudson Street. The Landmarks Preservation Commission's 1969 Greenwich Village report observes that its wood-sash windows are grouped in twos and threes, with a picture window in the middle of each group of three. It adds that closer attention to neighborhood window patterns would have cost no more.

    July 30

Ad executive John Reisenbach, leaving 61 Jane Street to use a payphone, is shot dead

At about 10 p.m. on July 30, 1990, John Reisenbach, a 33-year-old West Village advertising executive, left 61 Jane Street to use a payphone because his home phone was out. While he was talking with a colleague, shots were fired, and he staggered around the corner and collapsed in front of 803 Greenwich Avenue. Police arrested a homeless man days later but released him after six months, and the case went cold.
