Cathedral College moves its college program to Douglaston
Founded in Brooklyn in 1914 as a six-year minor seminary, Cathedral College was restructured by Archbishop Bryan J. McEntegart in 1967 as enrollment fell. Its college classes became a separate four-year seminary college in Douglaston serving the Brooklyn and Rockville Centre dioceses and the Archdiocese of New York. The first class had 38 students, 22 of whom became priests, and enrollment passed 370 by the early 1970s.

The Douglaston house of formation ends its seminary program
Cathedral College closed in 1987, and the Cathedral Seminary House of Formation carried on in part of the old campus. In October 2022 the Brooklyn and Rockville Centre dioceses and the Archdiocese of New York announced that most seminary work would move to St. Joseph's Seminary in Yonkers, and the Douglaston program shut in 2023. The house still hosts graduate theology and diaconate formation programs.
