Mary Mason Jones, the reigning hostess of New York society, moves into an earlier house on the site

In 1839 three sisters settled in adjoining houses at 732 through 736 Broadway, and Mary Mason Jones took the middle one, an earlier building on this site. The three houses were connected inside, so their ballrooms could be opened into one large space for the biggest parties. Her niece Edith Wharton later drew on her for Mrs. Manson Mignott in The Age of Innocence. The house was demolished in 1872 to make way for a commercial building.

By 1973 Samuel Weiser's bookstore occupied the ground floor, and the New York Times called it the supermarket of the occult, said to hold the country's biggest stock of titles on mysticism, the occult and Eastern religions. In October 1976 Donald Weiser, the founder's son, told a Times reporter that pyramid power items were among his best sellers. Weiser's gave way to the vinyl shop Record City in 1979.
