Cohn Brothers design a neo-Tudor store block with half-timbered gables

Harlem Queens Corp. built this one-story row of shops at the south side of 37th Avenue, at the corner of 84th Street, in 1941. Its architects, Cohn Brothers, also designed several Jackson Heights apartment houses, and they gave the stores neo-Tudor touches to suit the homes around them: a slate roof with small gables, two of them half-timbered, and an 84th Street side trimmed with random quoins, a chimney and an oculus window over a sealed door.
