In 1827 the carpenter James N. Wells built No. 90 Barrow Street under a lease from the Trinity Church Corporation. It was one of four matching houses in the middle of the block, put up as part of the development of the whole St. Luke's block. Later in the nineteenth century No. 90 was raised from its original two and a half stories to a full three, and it gained a bracketed roof cornice.

“…erected by James N. Wells, carpenter, in 1827 under lease from the Trinity Church Corporation as part of the development of the entire St. Luke's block…”
