In 1889 W. H. B. Totten, a produce merchant with several business addresses around Tribeca, had architect Thomas R. Jackson repeat the design of 12 Harrison Street, which Jackson had drawn for him in 1885. The new building replaced two small brick buildings that had stood on these lots since the middle of the century. Totten was active in the Mercantile Exchange and sat on the building committee for its headquarters at 2-6 Harrison Street.

“Built in 1889, to the designs of architect Thomas R. Jackson, this building duplicated 12 Harrison Street which Jackson had designed in 1885 for the same client…”
