Buchman & Deisler design a buff-brick tenement with a store for Emilia Hoffman

In 1891 the architects Buchman & Deisler designed this five-story Renaissance Revival building at 11 Carmine Street for Emilia Hoffman. It has buff brick, stone trim and a bracketed cornice with a raised parapet. Tenements and flats like it were replacing Village row houses to shelter a growing immigrant and working-class population. A 1930 alteration removed the stoop and put a new door at the sidewalk level.

“…designed by the renowned architectural firm of Buchman & Deisler in 1891 for Emilia Hoffman…”
