1827 Madison Street keeps its historic areaway railing but has a new stone-and-tile stoop

When the 2010 designation report was written, 1827 still had its historic areaway railing and newel posts, though some details were gone, along with basement wood windows behind metal grilles and a cornice painted pale yellow. The stoop and its railing had been replaced with new ones of stone and tile, a metal awning hung over the entrance, and aluminum windows filled every opening. The six-bay rear wall is stuccoed grey and carries a metal fire escape.

“…historic areaway railing and newel posts with some details removed. Alterations: Aluminum replacement windows in all openings…”
