In May 1910 G. X. Mathews filed permit NB 1409-10 for this corner building at Palmetto Street and Fairview Avenue, naming himself owner, architect and builder. It was part of the next phase of his company's Ridgewood development, on the northwest side of Palmetto between Fairview and Grandview avenues. The Landmarks report adds that these applications went in soon after Carl Berger left his post as the borough's Superintendent of Buildings.

The corner building opens stores onto Fairview Avenue beneath its flats

Unlike the purely residential houses mid-block, this three-story corner building has a nine-bay buff-brick side on Fairview Avenue with a central entry under a brick portico topped by a carved limestone cornice. A one-story store extension at the rear is original. Its cornice carries swags and cartouches. By 2009 the ground floor had new storefront infill, roll gates and awnings, and a satellite dish sat on the roof.
