Father O'Gorman removes the old church and begins the present one's basement

The Rev. Edward O'Gorman, the parish's first resident pastor, removed the 1877 church in 1893 and built half of the current church's basement in its place for $21,000. His successor, the Rev. Daniel H. O'Dwyer (pastor 1904-1909), put up the church itself, a Tudor-style design by Davis, McGrath & Kiessling. A copy of Brumidi's Crucifixion hung over the altar, and the basement held a chapel, hall, theater, club rooms and a gymnasium.

“Rev. O'Gorman "removed" the 1877 church in 1893 and there built half of the present church's basement at a cost of $21,000.”
