Penrhyn Court and the adjoining Oban Court were built in 1914-15 for the Roosevelt Ave. Building Company to designs by George H. Wells. Penrhyn Court sits at the corner, with a long front and central entrance on 82nd Street and a shorter side on 34th Avenue. The two five-story buildings, in gray Roman brick with stone trim, share a small courtyard. Each has its name carved above the door, and the original glass and iron double doors with transoms remain.

Penrhyn Court joins the row of apartment houses lining 82nd Street

After Laurel Court, the first wave of Jackson Heights apartment houses, including Oban Court and Penrhyn Court in 1914-15, went up along 82nd Street, the main route between the trolley stop on Northern Boulevard and the elevated station on Roosevelt Avenue. Queensboro hoped to house people commuting to factory jobs in Long Island City. Wells's Willow Court, Colonial Apartments and Plymouth Apartments followed on the same street in 1915 and 1916.
