39-59 44th Street turns its side to the street at the head of a 1926 Lincoln Court row

Built in 1926 as the northern end of a ten-house row in Lincoln Court, 39-59 44th Street is a flat-roofed house set farther back and turned to face the path to the common green. Its three-bay side wall faces 44th Street, where a cast-iron porch two stories high, still historic, gives each floor its own door, beside a large grassy side yard edged by a low concrete curb.

The Landmarks Preservation Commission's survey for the Sunnyside Gardens Historic District found 39-59 44th Street much altered. Green metal awnings hung over both entries, the decorative pilasters of the entry porch were gone, the window bays were clad in aluminum and a satellite dish sat on the roof. Vinyl windows had gone in throughout, jalousie windows filled the basement openings, and a historic wooden trellis survived along the fenced yard.
