  1. 1869

Brooklyn builders put up the corner house of a four-house Italianate row

James S. Bearnes of Brooklyn, a grocer and liquor dealer, bought much of this block front in 1868 and engaged the mason Peter Tostevin to design Nos. 45-49. The firm of Rabold and Tostevin then built the row of brownstones in 1869. As the corner house, No. 49 kept the most original look, including a doorway with an arched pediment on carved brackets.
